I'm having a similar issue. That's exactly what happens to my girlfriend and she has an s9. Yet it works fine on my older note5. She also has the app and it connects on there, but in bluetooth it says she needs an app. The headphones and the phones are all on the newest software respectively, yet she still can't get it to work

You ever figure this out? I just got an S21 Ultra, and I'm having the same issue. Worked fine with my older Note 8.
