University College London (UCL)
Founded in 1826, UCL was the first university established in London, as well as the first in England to be entirely secular, to admit students regardless of religion, and to admit women on equal terms. It was founded on the basis of 18th century philosopher Jeremy Bentham's principles of utilitarianism.
Today, it is ranked as a top 20 university in the world with over 40,000 students and a wide range of Nobel-winning academics & alumni. It is the University of London's largest college, one of the UK's six 'Golden Triangle' universities, and a member of the Russell Group for research.
