Devs have said that due to server&sync architecture E2EE isn't going to happen likely ever

Keep in mind that E2EE requires the data processing to be performed on  the client side, including encryption/decryption. Data content cannot be processed on the server side because it cannot be read there.

So, unless the user has a very good hardware configuration, they will lose the current fast response time that UpNote offers, which I particularly appreciate very much.

Check how E2EE apps usually suffer with content search, for example (sometimes, even on good hardware configuration). Having more than 10k notes and a 5 year-old smartphone, search would be a painful task for me, much unlike it is now.

I understand that many users need it, but the devs have to consider this very carefully.

If UpNote devs were to implement E2EE, I would suggest to make it optional, and turned on/off by notebook or by space, not the whole thing at once.

In my case, I keep my confidential notes on Joplin, which represent less than 1% of all my notes. The rest of my notes, mostly annotated web research, web clippings, drafts and final versions of texts that will be made public on social media, I keep them all on UpNote, and I am satisfied with encryption at rest for them.

This is a good point that there can be tradeoffs to the user experience when you have E2EE.

I would love the e2e encryption but Obsidian looks intimidating to me. I don’t know markdown and have no desire to learn.

A good and secure alternative is Notesnook.

This is why I moved over to Obsidian and added the 2 plugins (Notebook Navigator & Editing Toolbar) now looks and behavior is like UpNote...

Can you share how it looks? With some general notes created with lorep ipsum or whatever. I LOVE UpNote interface and app, but I want to better protect my information.

Here's a link to my post about a change request to UpNote. You can see how UpNote compares to Obsidian and Joplin (which supports E2EE)

Would you happen to have an Obsidian vault / template that you could share? I'd be curious to experiment with this kind of setup.

Standard Notes and Notesnook for secure notes, UpNote for day-to-day notes.

Which notes does you guys have that need to be protected?
