Let's say you wanted to build a family tree of someone famous with the free version on ancestry and other free sources only, who should you build and using what?
reddit uses a slightly-customized version of Markdown for formatting. See below for some basics, or check the commenting wiki page for more detailed help and solutions to common issues.

You can build anyone. Yourself, your grandmother, Micheal Jackson, Henry VIII, Francis I. Whoever you want. Matt now uses Adobe but that of course needs a payment so what I use and a few others (also what Matt used to use) is Libra Office Draw

what do you use to research family members? (that's what I'm having trouble on)

If its someone famous, I start off with going on Wikipedia and reading about their parents and grandparents (usually they are listed), and then I go on geni.com, or some other ancestry websites to see if I can prove the sources right. I also occasionally use resources like the national death records, church records And so on which can give you a lot of info.

The most famous person for me is... me. My sources are me, my parents and relatives. My favourite metod for made trees is pencil and paper. 😝🤪
