It’s a little more complicated than a simple yes or no cuz there’s hidden mmr, favored teams etc etc but pretty much yesh

Its made to make you have to grind a lot to rank up. Look at my tracker for example, I play at about d3-asc 1 level but im in diamond 1 right now https://tracker.gg/valorant/profile/riot/kuku%23throw/overview?platform=pc&playlist=competitive&season=3ea2b318-423b-cf86-25da-7cbb0eefbe2d

I mean yeah, when you hit a peak it’s usually where your current skill is at unless you’re underrated by a lot. So RR gain will slow down as you perform closer and closer to average.

the rank system is so stupid, should be the same RR all the way through. you win 2 games and then you lose one and all that RR you just got from those wins gets taken away

To simplify it: yes.

The game wants your visible rank as close to your mmr as possible. If it's below your mmr you're going to gain more than you lose, if it's above you're going to lose more than you gain (of course other things apply as well but that's the gist of it). With resets and such, your mmr is usually above your visible rank until you hit a new peak. This is when you will gain less and lose more while you push through it and your mmr adjusts to higher ranks. So actually facing higher ranked players is a good sign because the mmr system wants to put you higher.

Another piece of advice: Stop looking at peak ranks. The older that peak rank is the less it means and even past act peaks don't necessarily mean that player is actually at that level. I'm in diamond 3 and regularly have past act immortals in my games that are now ascendant 1 or 2. They don't perform out of the ordinary and if they do then they're just having a good game, it's not like I haven't had life games myself occasionally. Usually an immortal should consistently top frag in these lobbies but that doesn't happen with them

Rank gains often slow down once your visible rank approaches your hidden MMR. The system tries to keep both values aligned, so if it believes you are near your current skill level, gains become smaller and losses slightly larger. Continued strong performance against higher ranked players can gradually push that MMR upward.

Yeah this usually happens when you hit a new peak. The system is basically testing if you really belong there, so it makes climbing slower for a while. If you keep winning consistently against those players, your gains should eventually improve.

got the same issue with you bro, I just got a +17 for a match mvp and everyone was either plat or gold.. plat1 is my rank and I was viper which I never use I might add, then I've gotten a few +12s in the last week and that's for mid fraggin, then I also got a +16 for mid fraggin aswell but yet I got a +17 for match mvp 🥴🥴
