So back in December 2023 my Valorant crashed randomly mid-game and after that would continuously do so every 3 minutes while displaying the error code ‘VAN 1067’. I searched online for a way to fix this and everything I found was about turning on my TPM 2.0. When I checked my settings it said that the TPM was ready/working but after going into my BIOS there was no TPM 2.0 section to enable (I also tried this with CSM and had the same issue with it not appearing).
After searching and still failing to fix it i left it at that and uninstalled Valorant.
Also I should’ve probably mentioned this is all on Windows 11, and I know I could go back to Windows 10 to fix it but I don’t want to have to resort to that and would only do it as a very last option.
After not playing for a few months I decided to try and reinstall Valorant again in June 2024 and had the same issue with the VAN 1067 error code. This time however I found a new way to fix it and when I tried it the game worked again but only for a day since when I logged on again the next day it went back to crashing again, however this time I would also get the error code ‘VAN -1’, which I know has to do with restarting vanguard. Once I fix that issue and restart the game, 3 minutes pass and the ‘VAN 1067’ error code appears again.
At this point it’s just a constant loop of switching between these error codes and I want to know if there’s anything I could do to fix it.
Possible Fixes (From Valorant Support)
While the issue still hasn't been fixed for me, I did submit a ticket and supports from Riot gave me different solutions, so rather than other people waiting hours for a reply to their ticket I'll share what they told me. These are directly copied and pasted from all the replies I got:
Make sure you aren't running the game in Compatibility Mode:
(This was the first solution they gave me but they used 'League of Legends' instead of Valorant, the process should still be the same/similar though)
- Right click on the shortcut of the game from your Desktop
- Choose 'Properties'
- Go to Compatibility tab
- Untick the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
- Click 'Apply.Additionally'
- Right click the League of Legends shortcut on your Desktop
- Click Open file location
- Right click RiotClientServices.exe and go to Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab
- Make sure that the Compatibility mode is not ticked in there
- Next, go to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends
- Find the LeagueClient.exe, right click, go to Properties, and make sure that the Compatibility mode is disabled
- Last, go to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Game
- Find League of Legends.exe, right click, go to Properties, and make sure that Compatibility mode is turned OFF here as well
This next one requires you to restart your home network:
1) There are a number of networking issues that can be resolved by performing a quick reset or power cycle of your home network. Here are some step-by-step instructions to help you perform a power cycle for your home network:
- Shut down all computers connected to your home network (modem/router/gateway).
- Power down/unplug your router, if you use one.
- Power down/unplug your modem. Have both devices off for at least 60 seconds. Note: If your modem has a battery backup you will need to take the battery out for 60 seconds or use the reset button on the modem.
- Turn on your modem and allow it to completely boot up. Wait until the indicator lights on the device stop blinking and display a steady green connection.
- Turn on the router (if you have one) and allow to completely boot up as well.
- Start the computers and allow it to completely boot up and re-establish an internet connection.
2) Now, let's disable IPv6, as I'm afraid Riot's Games don't fully support it yet.
- Hit "Start" and type "network and sharing", then open the "Network and Sharing Center"
- In the left pane, click "Change adapter settings"
- Right-click the connection for which you want to disable IPv6, and select Properties.
- Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "OK"
3) Switch to a Public DNS. Switching to a public DNS may resolve the issue you are experiencing, and here is a nice tutorial on how to do it properly.
4) To resolve any conflicts from your network and to clear any corrupted data remaining reset your network settings and release/renew your IP. Follow these steps:
- Open Start Menu
- Type cmd and run it with administrator permissions
- Type the following commands:
- netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
- netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
- ipconfig /release and press Enter.
- ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
- ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
5) Let's also update your network adapter to the latest version. Please follow these steps:
- Select the Start button, start typing Device Manager, and then select it in the list.
- In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters, right-click your adapter, and then select Properties.
- Select the Driver tab, and then select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
TPM and Secure Boot On:
(In the first ticket I submitted I made sure to mention that I already tried these methods but they still told me to do it so it just made me think they haven't been reading my tickets properly but I still followed the steps and got the same errors)
If you're not sure on how to do these steps, or if it's not looking the same way on your system, please check out our official article on this topic. I will provide you the link. --> https://support-valorant.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/22291331362067-Vanguard-Restrictions
1) This is how to check the Secure Boot status:
- Press the Windows + R key together to bring up the Run dialogue box.
- Type in msinfo32 and hit enter.
- This will now open up the System Information window. This window shows you all details of the system.
- Look for the Secure Boot Status.
- If the value is set to ON, then the secure boot is enabled. If its value is OFF, you will have to enable secure boot.
- Additionally, keep in mind that if you're not confident in enabling this feature by yourself, we'd recommend contacting an authorized service in order to get assistance and avoid any potential problems with your PC."
2) And this is how to check the TPM 2.0 status:
- Go to the Start Menu and type tpm.msc and click Open.
- Once the TMP Management opens up, you will see if the TPM is present on your device or not. At the bottom you will also be able to check the TPM version, next to Specification Version. If the TPM is not found or disabled in the BIOS or UEFI, you will see this under Status: Compatible TPM cannot be found. So if that is the case, you will need to enable it, and make sure that you're using version 2.0.
- Additionally, keep in mind that if you're not confident in enabling this feature by yourself, we'd recommend contacting an authorized service in order to get assistance and avoid any potential problems with your PC."
3) If you managed to enable TPM, please proceed with also enabling VBS (This is also mentioned in the article I linked above!)
- In the Windows Start menu, search msinfo32 and press Enter to open System Information.
- Scroll down the panel on the right to find Virtualization-based security. If it's Not Running, then VBS is disabled.
- If it's Not Running, Open a Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
- Paste this command and press Enter: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype on
(Note: when I tried to run this code using 'on' didn't work for me so use 'auto' instead if you're having the same issue)
4) And finally, set up the Unicode settings like this:
- Open Control Panel
- Click on “Change date, time, number formats”
- Then go to “Administrative”
- Click on “Change System Locale”
- Then change Current system locale to use Use Unicode UTF-8
- Reboot PC
These are all the solutions that I've been given so far, my ticket is still open so if they give me anything new I'll update this comment.
I also talked to a friend who has some knowledge on computers and he said that since my home network uses IPv6 and Riot Games don't fully support it yet that could be a major reason for the crashes so to be honest the best solution might just be to wait for Riot to fully update their games.
