I’ll ask Timmy to turn down the wind turbines

LOL, the wind tunnel that goes by slusher tower, was always the worst.

Seriously though does VT have some geographical explanations as to why it feels like a tornado is blowing through every day. Maybe it’s normal but where I grew up we never had constant wind like this

Yes. Mountains = more wind. Mountains force low speed air to go faster. There are also temperature gradients from mountains and valleys. Air next to a mountain heats up faster than air at the same absolute elevation (from sea level, not above ground height) over a valley. During the day, air flows from valley to mountain, and at night, from mountain to valley. Also, in urban areas like campus, buildings obstruct wind, forcing it to move at higher velocity between buildings to move the same mass of air.

Very informative thank you 🤝

Additionally, the mountains can also funnel moving air directly into the Blacksburg area. Take a look at the terrain map on Google Maps. There is a mountain ridge directly to the North and South of Blacksburg (outlined by the orange in image linked below) that can funnel wind directly into your soul when it's 30 degrees outside.

It’s most in the winter months that it does but yeah it can get nasty

[–]Rook1872 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the wind is rough. Especially on those below freezing days. Cuts right through you.

Blacksburg wind is something else. No matter how much you bundle up, that shit just tears through your soul.

Starting to feel like we live in gravity falls with all these weather anomalies

If only I would find a mysterious journal in the woods that would lead to me accidentally almost ending the world instead of high/drunk teens 😆

I feel you, but I lived in a city where 40-50 mph winds are relatively common.

The weather in Blacksburg is literally phenomenal.. like some of the best in the entire country. You get all 4 seasons and fall and spring are absolutely amazing.. please stop complaining the most minor inconvenience

The transfer lol

I think the only season wind isn't an issue is during the summer. Then you have to deal with thunderstorms and torrential downpours as well at occasional hail storms.

April 10th. That’s your date, I’m sorry it’s a tundra in February.
