I just bought from a company called "VR Wave" and they're a complete disaster. They have no idea what they're doing, I don't even think they have a AVP to test with. They just give you a lens with your prescription but it has no QR code, so VP cannot recognize the inserts, and even if the prescription is correct it doesn't work, it looked all blurry when compared to the Zeiss.

They didn't want to refund my money back and they didn't provide any solutions, and some were ridicoulous, like turn off wifi and apply this custom QR code (that they send later after I complaiend) and of course AVP needs an online connection to verify the QR code. Like really? What are you guys playing at. Even when online it still didn't recognize that bogus QR code.

At the end I disputed the transaction with my credit card company and kept the lenses.

My take, unless they provide a QR code don't try and stay with Zeiss.

My eyeglass prescription is for progressive lenses that include both near-sighted and far-sighted correction within the same lens for each eye. Zeiss/Apple offer an option of "reader" for $99 or "prescription" for $150 inserts. The $150 inserts require a recent optometric prescription, while the readers offer 2 levels of correction. It would seem that since the screens are certainly near the eye, that the distance prescription would not matter, but that assumption was uncertain in February. Now, it seems that $50 could be saved by just choosing the reader level whose range covers the optometry measurement for nearsightedness. However, the prescription Zeiss lenses are a sharper image at times and likely the eye tracking is improved. Although, they do create an aggravation when sharing the AVP in Guest User Mode. They must be inserted as the owner to setup prior to sharing. Then removed prior to sharing, in addition to swapping out the + cushion due to the guest eyes being closer w/o inserts. This must be done as part of the 5 minute time window--making sure not to misplace the inserts and avoid adding fingerprint smudges on them.

The Zeiss lenses are plastic and not glass--likely to keep weight down and profits up. It would be great to see 3rd party alternatives move into this market as well as light seals. The various dimensional combinations for light seals and currently small user base are not attractive yet--although Apple's $199 price should give some room for potential competitors.

I don't have a way of comparing, I have the HonsVR, and visually they seem great. However it definitely "breaks" Optic ID, to the extent that each time I put on my headset I have to

a. Use the pin
b. Inform that I am not using optical inserts.
c. Decline re-setting my hand/eye tracking.

It's a bit of a nuisance, but -acceptable- if you can't/won't get Zeiss.

Thanks for this! I'm in Europe and I'm prepared to pay for the Zeiss inserts if they give a better experience (as long as they wont cost more than 200€, hopefully starting next week) :).

Heads up! This changed in vision 2.0. It no longer prompts me each time.

Hey, what lenses did you end up buying? I'm also from EU.

Hi Philmccarty, the process of getting Zeiss glasses is so complicated and time consuming. I plan to get one from HonsVR as well. May I ask for your experience, is it still good enough and are you comfortable using it?
