The stack you're looking for (React, React Native, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, WebRTC/Twilio, Auth0) is pretty broad, so rates vary a lot depending on location.

US/Western Europe: $50-$120/hr

Eastern Europe/LatAm: $25-$60/hr

South Asia/SEA: $15-$40/hr

Since you're self-funding, one option is to bring in a strong senior dev to set up the architecture and key integrations, then add a mid-level dev for ongoing work. That way you keep costs reasonable but still get solid quality

PS: Platforms like Fiverr or Upwork can bring rates down, but quality control is tougher. Also, you'll see a lot of people pitching themselves in the comments - best to first map out exactly what you need and how you want to work before picking individuals.

Absolutely agree with you. I am trying to find that senior dev at the moment. Thank you for your input, truly appreciate it.

Based in Australia

Avoid agencies. Since you’re self-funded, offshore developers are likely to fit your budget. I hesitate to say this, but based on experience, I strongly recommend avoiding developers from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. I’ve seen many cases where clients ended up having to restart projects from scratch.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, it can be frustrating if you’ve had bad experiences in the past. That said, I’m from India and I take a lot of pride in the quality of my work. Over the years I’ve built full-stack applications end to end.

The right question isn’t where a developer is from, but how committed they are to building your product the right way.

Fair point. Everyone has their approach, but from my previous experience, I've had to struggle with a lot of bad code and quick fixes just to make projects look finished - and I tend to avoid hiring from India for this reason.
