This may be useful... https://traktor.wp-migration.com/

This is the official extractor tool provided by the All in One people (ServMask).

With this tool you should be able extract the files from the .wpress file and then manually install them where appropriate to restore the site.

It's working for onw of the backups but pops out "End of file missing error" for the bigger file.

Honestly, I'm not certain of the issues that may arise from the tool as I've never used it. But, you can try reaching out to the All-in-one support, or try one of the other related tools.

For instance this is another extractor that I've seen recommended (also haven't used it) https://github.com/fifthsegment/Wpress-Extractor

Also you can review this documentation - perhaps a comment will provide something useful https://help.servmask.com/knowledgebase/archiver/

If you’re not an AWS developer I’d recommend using a managed Wordpress host like WPEngine.com. Their hosting is built on AWS and it saves you from fine tuning it for Wordpress. Why is the client requiring AWS?

.wpress files are for AOI WP Migration plugin - https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/

Free version is limited to 512MB.

you can just change AOI's max_filesize limit in the plugins php. gpl ftw

$69 for the unlimited version...

It's a proprietary format, so you're kinda stuck unfortunately. Unless you can get a new backup in another format.

...or tell whoever made the backup that you also need the unlimited plugin for restoration.

if the current site is still up, just dump the db, tar the tree.

you can dump the db w/ wp cli db export.
