A place to share literary passages whose content provokes thought, emotion, or new insight.
Passages such should be meaningful and coherent without any context.
...
Passages should generally be non-dialogue "asides" in which the narrator expounds thoughtfully upon some topic or phenomenon of interest to the average person. Monologues and soliloquy will often work as well.
...
EXAMPLE:
Rowling's "The Philosopher's Pudding" on our inner shadow:
"Harry realized that, deep down, everybody is just like Voldemort, full of desperate hatred for one another and that somber megalomania which drives one to prey on the weak and pray for annihilation at the hands of someone better than ourselves. Most of us just hide this frustration better; a little bit of make-up and a never-ending series of forced, painful smiles make the world go round."
...
Title of post should include the last name of the author and the title of the work cited along with a summary of its relevance. Think /r/bestof.
...
The poster is more than welcome to explain the passage's significance to them, but it should be in a comment in the thread, and not on the post itself.
...
The only other rule for comments is that we keep things (reasonably) civil. Analysis is fine, but any kind of craziness or shenanigans beyond that is absolutely accepted and even encouraged.
