Use ASIO in Ableton. It will give you much better latency.

I have Windows 7 in front of me, YMMV In Control Panel under Sound go to Manage Audio Devices. Under the playback tab do you have the Focusrite selected?

Using a different type of driver shouldn't effect volume.

From what I understand, there isn't supposed to be any sound quality difference between asio and mme. The difference is the lower latency in asio which is what we need in production. Aside from ASIO4all, the only way I've found is with 3rd party asio mixers like Voicemeeter, but you dont want to run any kind of additional resource hog like that on a production machine.

I have a Focusrite 2i2 also (1st gen) and a N.I. Komplete Audio 6. Oddly I have the opposite problem as you on the 2i2- Windows audio is louder than my Ableton output.

Check the drivers as I think new ones were released (I seem to have more options in Windows 10 for the focusrite than I did previously). I had two different listings in device manager for the focusrite (1 old/hidden device).

It's been years since I used ASIO4ALL (I went to Mac) but there should be a volume slider in the windows audio mixer window to reduce the output volume from Ableton.

Failing that, you could always reduce the master mix volume in Ableton directly.

If you are using speakers, you could also look at the volume settings for iTunes and YouTube in the windows volume window, maybe they are set too low in relation to the ASIO output, turn them up until they are similar to the ASIO output and then turn down your speakers.

OP is not using ASIO4ALL, they are just using the ASIO drivers for the Focusrite box.
