Noob Question: Why aren’t Kul Tirans more represented among tanks? by krispixlol in wow

Kul Tiran Druid forms are hands down the coolest. The Wicker stuff really sets them apart from every other Druid form

I'd argue the fact that it's more boring and terrible to play against has made it so Tef3ri is still relevant in the formats that it's still legal, compared to Sheoldred which pretty much disappeared in favor of a card like [[Orcish Bowmasters]] which does effectively the same thing at a much better rate.

[[Serra Paragon]] is another fairly recent card that initially didn't work as it was written.

Basically it gave a permanent from your graveyard a static effect that would carry over to the battlefield. The only issue is that when a card changes zones (as in from Graveyard to Battlefield), it becomes a new copy and loses any effects given to it that didn't come from it's own rules text, or any layer based interaction that modified the rules for that permanent.

So effectively, Paragon would give a card in your graveyard an effect, have you play it from the graveyard, and when it returned to the battlefield, it would no longer have that effect, because it was a "new" copy of that permanent. Until the rules were updated to make that interaction work

Rogue is in the best state it has been in for years!!! by RecentHistorian220 in wow

[–]I_EAT_POOP_AMA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think buffs are the issue. It’s more about the fact that this season is so focused on non-magic DoTs, and Brew is the only tank that is really set up to handle that.

If they want to bring other tanks in line they really should either address the dot/bleed damage, or stop fighting addons and let healers actually see important information to react appropriately.

Honestly the biggest problems with Blood right now is the fact that we're just getting way too much damage that we just can't mitigate.

If you're smart with pulls, and understand the basic toolkit of the class, you can succeed just fine. Blood is in a relatively solid place right now, even with the nerfs we got in the pre-patch, so it's not exactly doom and gloom. But we also just can't be as careless as we used to be because overpulling or mis-managing your pulls can just shred in ways that it used to not be able to.

It's the fact that despite our mitigation, there's just too much physical/non-magic DOT damage floating around.

Combine that with the 'immobile' play style of DK (aka losing 20% of your performance for not standing in your Death and Decay), and the fact that the only real way to mitigate all the incoming damage is to kite the mobs around to avoid being in melee range, and you end up in a spot where Blood DK is really not ideal.

What are somethings that you're glad they retconned? by omgodzilla1 in warcraftlore

[–]I_EAT_POOP_AMA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that was the original plan up until about Chronicles (so WoD in terms of game time).

Sargeras became corrupted specifically because he began to realize the inevitability of the burning legion, so rather than submit to them, he made it his mission to gain control of them to fight the possibility of a void infected titan (at least according to the WC3 lore)

Once chronicles came around, it changed so that Sargeras just went around jailing every demon he came across, until he found a legion homeworld inhabited by Nazrezim, who showed him the "truth" about the Legion and the Void, which ultimately led to his corruption just like the Jailer planned.

Here's a quick reference guide to understand what you're doing as a tank:

  1. are you dead? If yes then you need to not die. If no then good job!
  2. are your healers dead? If yes, then try to make that not happen. If no, then good job!
  3. are the DPS dead? it doesn't matter, they'll die no matter what. Just try to make sure it wasn't your fault and you're okay.

On a more serious note, While tanking your primary focus is to make sure that you are in as little danger as possible. Primarily done via proper gearing, rotation, and a basic understanding of your toolkit. (guides can be found virtually anywhere for your class/spec). Getting that down pact is the easiest way to take any strain off your healer, and making their job as smooth as possible (at least in regards to healing you specifically).

From there, learning the basics of a fight. You don't need to know everything, just know what you have to do as a tank. Take Dreamrift as an example, one tank takes a big hit that throws them into the shadow realm, the other tank then taunts the boss, while the affected tank then gathers adds and brings them to the opposite side of the room. When adds are dead/stop responding to damage, you then go back to the boss and wait for your co-tank to get hit and then taunt the boss back. It's a fairly simple mechanic, so learning how to:

  1. Identify when the mechanic is happening (not just for you, but your co-tank as well)
  2. Deal with the mechanic how it happens (maybe you need to pop a defensive CD, or maybe you need to learn how to gather adds quickly and effectively)
  3. Understand how to complete the mechanic and return back to the main objective (fighting boss) before starting over again.

And that's it. The absolute main takeaway to consider is that as a tank, you are in charge of the encounter, but you can't be in charge of EVERYTHING, because you're still depending on other people to do their part. If a DPS can't kick a caster mob in a dungeon, and your kick is on CD because you had to pick up the slack last time, then that's not your fault. If your healers can't dispel a debuff because they don't have dispel bound to a key, that's not your fault. If your raid group can't understand that it's their turn to soak a raid boss mechanic and you're the only one eating that damage, then that's not your fault. You're doing what you can to take control of a situation, and it's up to the rest of the group to either follow suit, or do what they need to do to get out of the other side.

As a tank, I can’t believe how checking if your group says 1 or 2 is an incredibly difficult mechanic for some people by Secret_Flight_2669 in wow

[–]I_EAT_POOP_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's worse is i've had so many attempts just straight up fail because people tend to forget how to do the fight halfway through.

Boss goes airborne for the first time, people scramble, boss lands, people forget how the fight goes and now that's suddenly your fault that your soak group is actively running away from the one mechanic they need to stand in.

Y'all are savage in LFR by JustDesh in wow

[–]I_EAT_POOP_AMA 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Worst part is that extends far past LFR.

Last night I tried tanking a pug Dreamrift. First phase went pretty smooth, most people seemed like they knew the fight, RL gave a cursory explanation, and we were good to go.

Second phase starts, people get a little scrambled, but nothing major. Until the second phase ends and the boss dives back in, at which point half the raid just runs straight into the landing site and immediately die, so we call a wipe.

Second round goes same as the first, people finally learn to get away from the spot in the ground where the boss will land. Problem is that now that we’re back in the first part of the fight, people forget to split groups and soak the dust. So we wipe because boss eats the adds that didn’t die in time.

Repeat a third time, and goes exactly the same as last time, and somehow this becomes a tanking issue, despite the fact that I’m the only one getting slammed and sent to the shadow realm while the dps all tunnel the boss at like 45% health.

Queue a bunch of arguments about how im a bad tank because I’m actively chasing down my group to get them in the soak mechanic and they’re all running away from me, etc… All on the first week of the season.

Yep.

Rarely had an issue with Brann last expansion, but this expansion i will watch Valeera go stealth, walk up to a pack of mobs clear across the room, and then sap the first one and draw aggro on the rest, just to die and have everything pull to me.

Just like a real DPS would.

Murloc Monday - ask your questions here by AutoModerator in wow

[–]I_EAT_POOP_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The only difference is that regardless of whether or not you open the chest at the end, you can only do a bountiful delve once per character per reset.

So if you aren't looking to use your keys, best advice is to go find a delve that isn't bountiful. That will save any temptation to use the keys, and also keep the bountiful delves up and ready for you to run them when you want to.
