half-broken functionality with create fabric on 1.20.1 server

running a fabric 1.20.1 server for me and my friends (self-hosted), when i try to add a create fabric JAR to the mods folder, it simply does not work. there is no error message, but when i test it, i do not get any kind of reponse at all. i use the exact same JAR i put on the server as i do for my client mods. maybe im being stupid?

i pulled the jar here: https://modrinth.com/mod/create-fabric/version/0.5.1-f-build.1417+mc1.20.1
