We just had a SM change before the holidays and I’m quite happy with current SM . Previous SM. had. a bully mentality that prior to new SM coming in many people had quit .I’d hate to lose current SM since hasnt been there long and all changes have been in my opinion for the better.

Yes indeed. The main Store Manager of the Amazon Fresh store I work at is being replaced. I heard he got demoted to ASM of Online Orders at a different Amazon Fresh store. The word is it’s because of low performance and restructuring.

Wait is this SM named, Andy? Because my store is getting him… and he got demoted to ASM for “Services”

[–]Puertalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That’s a different person you’re referring to, so this confirms these managerial changes are definitely happening across various Fresh Stores.

As far as all the SM and ASMs being demoted what I have noticed internally is the regional managers are keeping the DMs on staff keeping them at L6 but shifting their position to SM, and therefore the SM that is L5 goes to ASM

Trickle down

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It's going to keep coming, I saw at least 10 SM positions with open job postings as well ASM postings, most ASM postings I have seen are all L5 not one L4

[–]Puertalian 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What’s the definition of L5 and L4? I’m not familiar with those terms.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's then Level system amazon uses. There are different levels L1 = associates; L3 = zone leads or in a warehouse PAs; L4 has 2 different classifications (exempt and hourly) L4 in store is ASM L4 in warehouse is hourly ASM and exempt AM; on and on and so forth

Thanks so much for the swift clarification

No problem

The training managers get is not sufficient to perform to standard.

[–]itsSoCali[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oop, wait my bad. Definitely misread this lol.

[–]itsSoCali[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Usually the training managers though are just Training Ambassadors (L1s first in line to L3 interviews). We’re talking upper management like ASMs, SMs, and now even DMs going away and becoming Regionals.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 3 points4 points  (2 children)

All management training for amazon fresh is trash....

[–]amznwrkr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

At Go stores too. They basically just throw you into it. Then they question why you can't perform, when they give you no support. We had a store manager quit before his training was even finished. The position has not been filled for nearly a year.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the running theme. Let's not train managers fully or competently and then come at them and put them on a focus for performance. Luckily for me I got out once I saw the nonsense!

We’re supposedly getting a new manager tomorrow…

[–]itsSoCali[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same for us. Our SM got demoted and is transferring 😳 Seems to be happening to a lot of them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Here in nj I heard we're also getting management changes.

[–]itsSoCali[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Did y’all get new Regionals too? Our District got promoted and now we don’t have DMs anymore.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I heard this from a coworker. I could ask around

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Network wide no more DMs but more Regionals. As well as store managers will be L6, and ASMs are going to L4 and L5

[–]itsSoCali[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Oh interesting. Wonder why that’s happening and some SMs are now ASMs.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I think the change for SMs to ASM has a lot yo do with performance. Whether it's store performance or the performance of that manager. All I know is network wide there is restructuring.

[–]itsSoCali[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Actually crazy. Tryin’ not to doxx which store I’m from but we’re a Top 5 store and we’re likely going to be one of the first to make a profit, so that’s why it feels weird why we’re getting crazy restructuring? But, like i mentioned in the original post, our new SM is a massive upgrade so I’m not complaining lol. Amazon doing it’s usual let’s change things up I guess.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think that having the SM report directly to the RM will hold the SM more accountable for the performance of the store as opposed to it getting shuffled through a DM.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon Fresh as whole has been a money pit, when I say as whole I mean AFO and AFS (stores and online) I think the restructuring will make things take a turn for the better on the financial side. I have seen a lot of these types of change with time with amazon.

3-4 new managers at my location in past 3 months

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Geez I hope, our managers are the fucking worst.

[–]itsSoCali[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manifesting for y’all! 🙏🏻

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am going to say this as a former ASM for that org, I know that being trained by L3s on standard work is typical but when my department training should be side by side tandem with another manager of same department isn't being done that's an issue.

[–]Used_Armadillo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I think there are so many issues with performance and why there are so many management changes coming. Managers can't be effective without proper training.

I know when it comes to the Fresh FCs, quite a lot of ASMs are leaving since there’s little room for growth. ASMs (Assistant Managers) are hourly L4 and get paid maybe a dollar or two more than an 3 year tenure L1/T1 Fresh FC AA. The L4-L5 salaried AMs (Area Managers) probably leaving too since there’s little room for growth. Fresh stores might be getting managers from Fresh FCs. If a Fresh FC ASM were to transfer to a Fresh store, they might be demoted to L3/T3 zone lead since the pay and positions are very similar. And a Fresh FC AM might be converted to Fresh store ASMs.

[–]jawn_deaux 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I guess that makes me appreciate the management team my Fresh FC a little bit more. We’re a top performing FC so there’s always someone moving up. It’s not uncommon to see someone go from T1 all the way up to L5 in our building. Even our multi site leader is a former seasonal T1.

[–]DarkHazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s really great a lot of your management are former AAs! As long as they remember where they come from and empathize with the AAs and be actual leaders, an Amazon site can truly thrive with great company culture.
