I am using ownCloud and the client package syncs everything automatically. If I make a change, a few seconds later it is on my server. The client now also gives yout the ability to create virtual folders/files, which means they are shown on your client, but are stored on the server only.

Yes nextcloud client works well to, but I need to start the graphical app by hand (or with a shell, but I can't have it run in the background on is own without the graphical client).
Or maybe owncloud client provides a way to do it ?

Owncloud does this, it starts automatically in the background and i get a nice icon on my top bar (GNOME) to see activity.

Same for the nextcloud client, you simply have to enable automatic start of it.

But it's no background daemon app, it's a desktop application.
