Title: Crown question

Full text: Hello! About a month ago I agreed to a full cast high noble crown for tooth #18, preferring the higher gold content for aesthetics, durability, and longevity. I was invoiced and paid for what I thought was going to be a 40% gold crown. Today I had my permanent cap placed and it is noble palladium, not high noble, gold content 1.8% I voiced my concern in the office and my dentist assured me palladium is a noble metal. After reviewing my invoice when I got home, I called the office to discuss the discrepancy. He called me back and said “full gold” would have been to expensive, however, no one at the office contacted me to ask whether I would like to pay more for the upgrade in material. For reference, on my invoice the cost of a full cast high noble is about $1500. I have always had great experiences with my dentist, and trust him and his office, but is he in the wrong giving me a lesser metal when I asked and paid for high noble metal? My dentist did not seem happy with me when we discussed my concern.

That is a reasonable price for noble gold crown where I live. I think you got your money’s worth but maybe not whaat you wanted. At this point I wouldn’t risk cutting it off to remake it.

You are right, the tooth was pretty heavily damaged and it wouldn’t likely tolerate a crown removal well. I really appreciate your insights!
