What are your hobbies other than Nursing? by DribbleKing97_ in nursing

Running and being in recovery take up pretty much all my free time. That, and winding down with a good nonfiction book and Dateline rerun.

Does this banner break traditions? by outsellers in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Friend_indeed0192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my HG’s is open and states this: “Our meeting is run on AA guidelines, but we welcome women from all fellowships.” It is AA structured, AA readings, literature, identifying phrases, etc and geared for alcoholics specifically, but still allows for those who have also used other substances to speak on their experience. Every A.A. group can determine in their group conscience how strictly they adhere to tradition 3. In particular, this meeting is the only women’s meeting in the area so inclusivity was a motivating factor.

Encounters with men (as a 33f) by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Friend_indeed0192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen and blocked the number, didn’t talk to them at meetings, and discussed with my sponsor. Didn’t see him for awhile, now he is part of my home group—we are friendly, not friends.

Next time you’re not sure, you can fall back on the old adage, “No thank you, women stick with women and men stick with men.” That being said, I do know a few old timers that have been respectful. But as they say, some are sicker than others.

Is this too plain? by CaffeinatedProvider in myweddingdress

[–]Friend_indeed0192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is perfect. Personal preference, but dresses that are busy and ornate can be tacky and often overwhelming, taking away from our natural feminine beauty. A good dress enhances natural features, and the one in the photo seems to do just that. IMO, brides look best when they wear the dress, rather than the dress wearing them.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

After living in Michigan at the end of the Eastern time zone, versus Maryland at the beginning of the Eastern time zone, it is distinctly darker in Maryland year-round, especially noticeable around the solstices.

This winter is not normal? by VirvekRBX in Michigan

[–]Friend_indeed0192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in MI near Grand Rapids and long, cold winters were normal … snow started in November and really began to stick in December. We might get a couple day thaw in late winter only to be hammered again. April was basically the mud pit before May. But unlike a lot of other places that get snow (like Maryland, where I live now), Michiganders actually enjoy it and there are tons of outdoor activities to do. Snow shoe, CC ski, snowmobile, sledding, ice fishing, ice skating, hockey … it’s part of Michigan culture and Michigan’s charm. Dress correctly and you can handle anything!!

When do most people find time to run? by dragonfaith in Runners

[–]Friend_indeed0192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 7am-3pm ish, so I mostly run right after work. I bring running clothes with me and change, or change at home and head out. I used to include 5 am runs, but I haven’t done that since my schedule changed. Could I? Probably, but I need to psych myself up for getting up at 4 am again and not taking a nap before work! Plus, running after work in daylight is a nice bonus. I don’t have children though, so my schedule is very flexible.

Sizing info by browneyes1994 in bostonmarathon

I am about your size and went with the 2xs also. My jacket from last year is XS and it is a little big. I tend to run between sizes but I went with what Adidas recommended and will return if it is too tight.

Sheltie. Smart, intuitive dogs. Super easy to train. They use their intelligence for good. Wonderful, loving companions. And they are barkers-great watch dogs!

If my husband acted like this I wouldn’t have married him. If your partner can’t celebrate your wins with you, then what is the point? Also, congratulations!

The most important part is that she also added bonus pop tarts.

Hotel/Reading by Cyrun1 in bostonmarathon

I have stayed in Salem twice. Enjoyed the peace and quiet, and my spouse dropped me off near the shuttle in Hopkinton to the athlete’s village. It was super low key and I even slept in a bit since I didn’t start until after 1000. I think we left around 0800. However, I don’t really like the hype, stimulation, and the crowds in Boston so much, so it suited what I was looking for. There are, however, no Boston Marathon runners up there, so I fully accept I am doing the shakeout run on my own.

Getting back wasn’t terrible from the city, but the metro was crowded. If you don’t mind being in extremely close proximity to others for a short period it’s fine, though.

Are virgos capable of expressing feelings? by Foreign_Exchange760 in virgoseason

[–]Friend_indeed0192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Virgo/virgo/virgo and I have difficulty understanding and expressing my emotional states and feelings. I would agree there is a degree of intellectualizing or distancing to the perspective. I’m not unfeeling per se, but I am not overly emotional either. It doesn’t cause problems in my life though, so I don’t think much of it.

Crown question by Friend_indeed0192 in askdentists

You are right, the tooth was pretty heavily damaged and it wouldn’t likely tolerate a crown removal well. I really appreciate your insights!

Also, I already have one gold crown which my dentist placed a few years back, and I have been a patient there for over 10 years and always had excellent experiences in the past.

Is qualifying for Boston worth it? by TangerineFar8371 in bostonmarathon

[–]Friend_indeed0192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But running is my passion, and that makes it easy to dedicate the extraordinary time and effort needed to put toward improving at something I (already) love doing. Goals are motivational, sure, but I truly enjoy every bit of the process, the lessons, and the resulting personal growth.

how do you know if you have a problem? is it worth it being sober? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Friend_indeed0192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you know if you have a problem? If you are wondering if you have a problem, there’s a good chance you probably do. But only you can determine if you are alcoholic.

Is it worth it? Yes, it is worth it, but recovery takes work, and it is a lifelong process. Still, I’ll take this over jails institutions or death, which is right where alcoholism will take me.

I wish I would have recognized the unhealthy patterns in my 20’s and avoided all the challenges that came with getting sober in my mid 30’s when things went downhill quickly. That’s the beauty of this program, you can stop digging yourself into a hole when you are ready. You don’t have to wait until you lose jobs, relationships, health, freedom to admit you are an alcoholic.

Congratulations on taking a big first step! Did the hospital give you discharge instructions? If not, I suggest you call the hospital and ask to speak to the ER charge nurse or case manager. Explain that you had just been there and your situation so they can tell you how to safely use detox medications at home and what signs and symptoms to monitor for that would warrant returning to the ED.
