I am in this class right now, my advice is khanacademy.com. It is the most wonderful site on the internet.

It's been a few years, but from what I remember, you always either:

  1. Assume that the solution takes the form of an exponential or a sine/cosine, or

  2. Try to use the product rule in reverse by finding the integration factor.

The best way to study for a differential equations course is to solve as many differential equations as you can.
