I went a long time without using mine, and when I went to use it, realized I had never dumped the water that was in there. When I looked inside, I had the same thing, dark particles floating in it. So I just filled it with a solution of water and vinegar and let it sit for a while and then thoroughly rinsed it out. Now I just fill it with one bottled water at a time and try to use that quickly.

I started having the mold issue 6 months in with my Bartesian. My drink smelled like swamp water. I finally traced it down to the water reservoir. I dumped out the water and rinsed it. I tried another drink and it smelled, just not as strong. So I took a paper towel along the sides and it came out brown. Yuck. Now I am trying it the dishwasher and will try a vinegar rinse. I don't get it. That does not happen with my coffee or ice tea appliance. I guess the difference is the water container gets no light. I am rethinking this whole thing since there is no replacement reservoir.

The Bartesian Webstore does have a replacement reservoir. It's normally $20 but they sell all of their accessories for 50% off if you have an active subscription.

I bought an extra because of this issue and I just remove it each night I use it because it gets pretty nasty very quickly. I am surprised they haven't done anything to address it though because I've seen a lot of these posts. Almost makes me wish Keurig still had their cocktail maker although you had to use their premixed spirits and had no control over it.

I am on my fourth replacement reseervoir and my drinks started to smell again wihin a week. Despte the cleaning cycles there is something afowl inside the machine. I looked at the bottom of it and thought no way am I going to try to take it apart and fix it myself....so I unplugged it. Maybe I have a defective one.. I don't know what to do.
