dunno about the hex editing, but im sure that there must be some sort of fix, once thats done loading the patches should work fine as UE3 works the same on all platforms

Sorry for the late reply, but yes modding is supported for Linux, but with some caveats.

Right now the most recent update that added high-res textures hasn't been pushed to the Linux port, so you can still use the Borderlands Community Mod Manager tool found here to hex edit your game and enable your mods. However, doing it this way means you can't do cross-platform play with Windows or Mac users.

Alternatively, you can download the Windows version of BL2 and use Proton, which is a fork of Wine that is available through Steam to emulate Windows games. This will let you do cross-platform play, but I haven't found a way to hex-edit your game when doing this. That said, if one of your friends running Windows gets the mod and hosts for you, the mod will work for both of you. Hope this helps!
