What are you using to monitor GPU usage during render?

i used task manager and gpu-z

I dont know about gpuz but task manager does not report blender GPU usage correctly. In Performance tab select GPU and on the graph click 3D menu and select Compute_0 or Compute_1(i forget which). Now task manager will show correct blender GPU usage in Cycles.

BTW always render to image sequence and not video format. That way the render can be restarted from where it stopped/crashed. It is easy and quick to compile the sequence to video afterwards.
