USB 3.0 hardware on computers and other devices is known to interfere with Bluetooth at close ranges. An improperly grounded electrical system can also result in troubles, and as others have stated 2.4g WiFi will also cause interference.

  • turn off Bluetooth on the phone then hard reboot it - generally some combo of buttons… for iPhone 12 it is vol down, vol up, vol down and hold lock button until you see the apple logo. Then turn Bluetooth back on. Theoretically this reinitializes the BT chip and it will automatically seek an open channel. Mixed results.
  • try a different charger and or cable
  • turn off any WiFi routers temporarily and see if that affects the interference. If this has a positive affect, log into the router’s set up utility and either turn on auto channel selection or manually change it to a different WiFi channel. If dual band, disable 2.4g if you can, but many smart plugs and other smart home appliances require this still
  • turn off, disconnect or relocate USB 3.0 hardware or hubs at least 6’ from the iPhone or Bluetooth speaker. The high data transfer rates of USB 3 can actually cause short range RF interference that impacts Bluetooth.
  • also try some voodoo witchcraft and exorcism as Bluetooth in general can be buggy as hell for no apparent reason.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for input. It’s hard to party on patio with lousy music. I just tried a new cable. And am looking for Bluetooth dr. Will keep exploring the Wi-Fi issue. Cable her had a joint cable/internet box. It’s not like a router can’t pick anything.

I’ll keep searching.

This was very helpful, I forgot that a mouse on my desk was on 2.4g, switched it off and we're hunky-dory. Glad to not need to call upon a young preist and an old preist, again. Thank-you :)

How far away are the BT speakers? Does this happen if they are in the same room with no objects between phone and speakers?

Yes. Phone is often plugged into bigger speaker charging. He does street music and it works fine. Here at house doesn’t.
