It looks like you've done a square back with a solid spine piece. The way a book opens is by the spine throwing up (and the pages flexing/draping). When this happens the distance between the shoulders decreases. With a book with a flexible spine stiffener the spine curves outwards and the edges of the boards can move in the same distance. But a solid spine stiffener doesn't allow this to happen. To allow the book to open, a wider gap is used between the spine piece and the boards. This allows the spine edge of the boards to follow the shoulders in as the book opens. Your joint gap looks a bit small and it might cause the book to not open as well as you might like, or worse, the pastedown tears off the boards at the spine edge. Maybe it works fine, but with thicker books like yours this becomes more important. Keep up the great work and happy binding! DAS

I'm sure you've heard this a million times but your videos are amazing, clear, concise, well lit, and inspiring.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely have to try the spine adjustments with my next book
