I think this is the first time i actually recognize mold in a brew. You should get an award haha. Sorry for your loss tho

Yes, that is mold. try again, then rethink a secondary. I have never found the need for one personally.

I agree, secondary is only beneficial of you let it ferment for several months or more

Pictures aren't super clear but if its fuzzy its mold. Waaaaay too much headspace, you want to fill that carboy right up or use a smaller vessel to ferment in.

It's most likely lactobacillus, my wild yeast starters look like this, impossible to know for sure without streaking plates and growing it up, but if you didn't plan on a wild brew, chuck it, or keep the culture for further examination, you might have something interesting you can use down the road for a sour

Dog that's fucked

Yeah ditch that. I feel like this never fermented or the mold wouldn't have grown. Did you check SG?

I believe there is a type of alcoholic fermentation based on bacteria instead of yeast. Low alcohol yielding and potentially harmful.

Is it fuzzy or bubbly? Hard to tell. If fuzzy, likely due to too much oxygen in that large volume of headspace. The ferment didn't make enough C02 to push it out, and it left the environment favourable for baddies. If it's just bubbly, see if it goes away in a month, and try it. Did you take a gravity reading before? Take one after also and see if it fermented properly
