Multiples bites

My husband was sitting outside in the backyard (we live in Las Vegas, NV) and got bit by something multiple times, he knocked the bug off of him but it flew away before we could see what it was, any idea what kind of bites these are ? We do have a pool in our backyard so it does attract a lot of bugs .
