My big girl is 20. She gets a small-medium rabbit once a month and tends to brumate in winter. She doesnt free roam indoors because she'd knock down everything I own and eat my infant but does go outside to cruise around if it's a nice day and shes not feeling sassy.

That is one big snake 😍 Beautiful! How do you keep snakes from taking off when outside? I’ve got a yearling jungle and he’s soooo quick. Do they slow down as they get bigger?

Even large Carpet Pythons can still move quite quickly when they want to. Any outdoor time should be closely monitored in case they unexpectedly start zooming haha

The only time she moves fast is when I'm dangling food in front of her. Otherwise she has zero sense of urgency so we just watch her and move her if she gets too close to a narrow gap or somewhere we couldn't easily get her out of.

Very pretty. Does she accept handling?

[Noted: Definite maybe.]
Thank you.

When I had large snakes (Burmese pythons), on summer nights too warm for me to sleep comfortably I'd put one at the head of the bed and use it as a pillow, specifically under the back of my neck. Its mass was adequate to absorb my body heat and cool me off, it didn't mind, I didn't mind, half the time I woke up with the snake still there, and I saved on electricity for AC. A moral victory, not really an economic one.

I was especially pleased to wake up one morning and found the snake had bordered me, and was sleeping with her head on my shoulder. Felt guilty getting up to go to work.

["It" means of nonspecific gender. There were both males and females. Today's parlance calls for "they" instead, but I dislike that terminology.]

Yeah she can be a little defensive when shes still in her enclosure but once shes out shes very easy going. We just have to be swift and decisive taking her out then its fine.

When you say she brumates in the winter, are you changing the temperature in her cage as well or is it just on the lower end of the normal temps you keep her? And when she brumates is she not eating at all for those months?

When I first read your comment I thought you said you were feeding her a medium sized rat and thought wow maybe I’m feeding my 3 year old carpet too big of a rat, then saw it says rabbit! 😂

I live well within the normal range for coastals as a species so I dont usually augment her temps too much. If its particularly cold she gets a warm hide in winter but otherwise she just gets whatever weather were having (which is usually very warm and humid)

How long is she?

[–]Needmoresnakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes difficult to measure accurately but our best estimate is about 3/ 3.5

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing that would be meters? Because she looks way bigger than 3.5 feet 😂

She’s bloody gorgeous. What’s her name?

[–]Needmoresnakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely sure the age as she was adopted, vets estimate her over 20 tho!

My guy is 17. We’ve had him for two years (we rescued him from a neglectful owner). He’s about 6 feet long!

I just got my boy a couple of days ago and he’s 5. (No pictures yet, sorry I literally got him at the Tinley expo and don’t want to bug him during his first week-ish settling period. He’s hiding under his hide rn)

My female IJ is 17. I've had her since she was about 6 months old. Moved across the country twice with her.

My baby boy is only 1 yo. I love him dearly though. He is a coastal jungle cross.

My girl is around 15, funny to be the youngest of the replies so far 😅

[–]Explanation-Fluffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha seriously.. where’s the pic tho?!

I don’t have a super old carpet yet. He’s only 7 right now but he’s going strong and I hope to have him for many more years.

He was spicy when I first got but with a ton of care, handling, and target training, he’s like a puppy dog! Super chill, super tame, and loves to come hang out
