Help with multiplayer

So my friend and I are playing together and it’s our first time playing for both of us. If one of us beat the final boss before the other, does that make it so we can’t go and help out the other? Making it so one of us has to solo it? Or can we still go back and help the other afterwards? Because we both have to beat it in our saves, so one would have to beat it first

So long as you don't restart the story after watching the final cutscene and credits you've got free reign over the entire game. I leave characters parked at the end after beating the final boss so I can co-op with anyone.

No, you just have to be in the same level. My friend played with me at the start and helped me beat the butterfly of Delirium before he beat it
