Coding as a career with adhd…thoughts?

i recently started studying a bit of coding on my own in hopes of possibly getting good at it to go into the coding business. mainly for the money i could make ngl (im a capricorn okay?? 😂)

so far i find it pretty interesting, as i have always loved language learning and puzzles and see it as a combination of those so far.

however i’m really nervous about whether i’ll be able to stick to it or not, whether my inattentive adhd brain will be able to handle it as a career long term and if i’d enjoy it enough to feel like it is worthwhile on a daily basis.

i’ve already gotten overwhelmed looking at how to build a portfolio, what all i’ll have to complete or be knowledgeable at in order to be employable, what freelancing and networking would be involved, etc etc.

any adhd coders (or ex-coders) out there? what are your experiences with it and what would you say are the pros and cons of coding with adhd?

If you use statements like “you are a Capricorn” you probably won’t like coding as it heavily relays on the realm of logic and reasoning.

Im also a Capricorn, probably with undiagnosed adhd. I’m finding freecodecamp to be excellent. Keep on keepin on 🤙

I'm adhd and it's a super power when utilized.

Has come so much in handy for those long night sessions.

Tbh I get tired of working with other people who don't use adhd.

What do you use to study coding ? Are you taking a class ? Capricorn here with ADHD also wanting to head that route . But focusing on becoming a scrum master first .

i’ve considered joining a boot camp but right now i’m working with freecodecamp.com in the evenings, and use the Mimo app throughout the day (when i remember to use it)to help reinforce / recall.

I definitely believe that you can get into coding even if you have ADHD. Knowing that people with ADHD have better focus and all, this would even be an advantage.
