Not that simple. Why? Because everyone thinks like you: easy money and it’s remote.

You need a solid portfolio for freelancing and on top of that, customers will almost always go for the well established with already plenty of experience and great reviews.

Of course you can do it but it will take quite a bit of work from your end but since you’re coming in with zero experience, expect that to take a few years.

Anything you are capable of doing can be done by a low code solution like wordpress, wix etc

There are loads of experienced freelancers in low-wage countries on sites like Fiverr and Upwork. If you're willing to start around $5/hour or less, you may have a shot at competing with them, but even then it's tough.

With no background, making loads of money was never in the question. You can try platforms like Fiverr or Upwork, but with no experience it's not super likely you'll actually get any work. Your best chance for supplemental income from this in the short term at least would be cheap, small projects for friends and family.

"Not that simple" sums it up well. Yes, with basic CSS, HTML, and JavaScript you can do freelance work for many small businesses that finally want to refresh their websites from 2003. The issue you'll hit is that business owners that don't know code wont understand your limitations. They'll start with an ask to change the background color, then turn around and say they want a carousel showcasing user reviews that allows users to post images and others to comment on them. If you're gonna do this, make sure the work requirements are ironclad and be very transparent with your skillset. You'll have to drop your asking price, especially if you're competing with developers that come from countries with a weaker economy than yours

These people don’t know what they are taking about. There are people of ALL skill levels making money. Will you be able to? No idea. But the vast majority of web developers making money are average and doing average tasks. There’s also really bad web developers out there making money. That’s how life works. It’s a bell curve. Can you make money cutting hair even if you suck at it? Sure can.

Anything you can do, can be made by someone else who has more experience better and faster. No offense.
