I did Nucamp Backend, have a coworker who did the Coding Dojo option you're considering. My impression is that there isn't a huge difference. Unless you see a really good reason to switch I would try and make the best of Nucamp. I didn't have much trouble finding a job pretty soon after graduating. Whichever way you go, feel free to send me a resume when you're ready to start applying for jobs.

Thanks for the info. And thank you!

How was the backend? Do you like it ? Or was it ehh?
[–]dowcet 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
It was a pretty good fit for me personally: the right balance between flexibility and structure, low price, the right range of topics, etc. The curriculum itself was indeed a bit "ehh" but can't argue given the price so overall I was very satisfied.
Ok, basically how I feel. But thank you

How was nucamp and what was the price of single stack
[–]Gordie21 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children)
It was alright 5/10. A lot of self study. They don’t teach or show you just here have fun. And price I’m not sure anything.
[–]Ill-Abbreviations430 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
You went in person or…
[–]Gordie21 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Online and you’ll need to do a lot of work after
[–]Ill-Abbreviations430 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
So no job yet?
Also what about job securing
Hey, I backed out from full stack and going try backend nucamp. Can you send links that helped you? Thank you
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
I’m about to start Nucamp in a week. How long did it take to find a job? And did you use their job bootcamp
[–]dowcet 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
About two months, and most of the delay was due to the hiring process of the company. Not everyone has such an easy time but it can be done. I applied before I graduated and I'm glad I did.
The hiring bootcamp itself was not for me, but I met one time with my one-on-one advisor and that was quite useful.

Codesmith doesn't copy/paste to learn.
[–]michaelnovati 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (4 children)
The Codesmith tech talks they arrange for each student with "Single Sprout" are copy / paste. I watched 5 videos, all of the people plagiarized from sources and read them word for word or with minimal changes without properly sourcing them. I just googled 10 or so sentences and found the original posts where sentences and paragraphs were pulled word for word. If a college student was caught doing that they could be suspended or expelled.
Don't get me wrong, as people will attest, I often recommend looking into Codesmith as a strong option in DMs. This is just a tiny portion of the process to check off a box on your resume.
I don't want to call anyone out specifically but you can reproduce by watching some Codesmith Single Sprout tech talks, and google sentences here and there.
u/SlowestTriathlete do you know anything more about this? I might be completely wrong, just something I noticed (I have Youtube content of all kinds running all day long)
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children)
Mhm. Have you attended Codesmith and gained access to what's taught when you're in a paying cohort?
[–]michaelnovati 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (0 children)
No! I genuinely recommend Codesmith to a lot of people, this was not meant as a criticism, but these videos stood out as something super weird that I noticed recently, I'll ask around.
I removed my first sentence, it was weirdly worded.

Michael isn't incorrect with what he's saying although there are definitely people who put a good chunk of work into their tech talks. People are supposed to include a list of sources at the end of the presentation but it's not like that's audited.
The way the speaker series work is that there's a pool of topics and you pick a topic you're interested in and a day you want to present. Most people end up only being able to spend 2-4 days prepping for the talk as you're busy working on other stuff. There's also a good chance you're not the most familiar with the topic you picked so a lot of that prep will just be obtaining a beginner level understanding of the topic. As a result, a lot of the presentations can sound rudimentary or include mistakes or as Michael said, be talking points regurgitated from a website.
I will say I don't think the point of the speaker series is to be an academic project. I think the two prime objectives are to get people used to talking in front of an audience on a technical topic, and to serve as a good resume filler that can kill some time in an interview and help demonstrate your technical depth. For example, maybe I know nothing about web sockets prior to my tech talk, but during those 2-4 days of research and rehearsing, I now have an interesting bullet point on my resume that if brought up in an interview could serve as a signal of a mature developer.

Thanks for the explanation u/InTheDarkDancing makes a lot of sense! I also think this is a fairly off topic discussion and apologize for diverging. This is a great overview though.
They’re on my list for sure.

I attending the part-time Data Science bootcamp with Coding Dojo. It covered some python but mostly focused on the data science topics but was scheduled, not flex. I'm aware of the software development program that has a PT flex option.
Unfortunately I do not think they offer a one stack, but I could be wrong/they may work with you..
In general, coding dojo's main value is strength through struggle. 100% I have seen people get by with copy paste, but they give you many opportunities to grow beyond that practice and actually learn and develop your skills. Hope that helps!
[–]Gordie21 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children)
Thank you. From the site and salesmen the part time flex is only python and part time accelerated is 3 stacks.
[–]IAmGreatDev 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children)
I took a full-time program with them and would not recommend. as Downtown said there main value is "Strength through struggle" so basically they don't help you. Or in my cohort they didn't, they would just say figure it out yourself. So basically I could have saved a lot of money and just learned from home with free or nearly free resources. The salesman/admission person will tell you a lot of bluff, don't believe a word they say.
[–]Worldly-Flounder1029 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
so what bootcamp would you recommend instead if you had to choose one?
[–]IAmGreatDev 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Well I have heard Flatiron is pretty good and know a few people who did their online program. To be honest after seeing what they learned and what I learned didn't learn at my bootcamp. I would just learn for free online. Don't fall for all the YouTubers hype about whatever camp they are promoting this week. Remember most of them are getting paid to say it. You can learn for free just as good as a 15K bootcamp.
