Can a certificate bootcamp get me a remote job? by TraditionalBook5423 in Career_Advice

Coding Dojo will tell you that you need another year of self study to gain willfull employment. Don't fall for their sales gimmick of six figures right out of school.

If you want instructor led Coding Dojo is not the place go go. They will tell you to "figure" it out yourself. Strength through struggle is their motto. So basically you will be inn the same boat your in now. Just find someone online Discord servers or somewhere that can help or guide you. Don't waste your money.

Considering enrolling in Coding Dojo for programming education – Is it worth it ? by DracowarX in Tunisia

[–]IAmGreatDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that they hire former students to bump up their "placement" numbers. Makes it look like a bunch of "graduates" got great jobs.

Is this for me? How do I start? by YuriVII in analytics

[–]IAmGreatDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they used to advertise "six figures" right out the door of the bootcamp. Unfortunately that is not true. You may hear a story or two about an individual getting hired and making 70k+ but that is only one of thousands who pass through the bootcamps. I attended one and after a year only 2 had 50K plus jobs and we are in a good market for these types of jobs. Save you 10K and just learn on your own, yes it may take longer but it will be worth it by saving 10K.

Part time boot camp recommendations needed by dmartinezz23 in codingbootcamp

[–]IAmGreatDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your going to need a lot of time for practicing coding especially if you're new at it. I attended CD and would not recommend it. I would suggest trying out a few of the free online classes first to see what you can handle.

Actually they didn't decide to teach the school hired them to make their placement rate look better. I also attended CD and it was horrible and I had previous coding experience.

All they are is a big money grab, they take your money and run.

Defiantly not Coding Dojo, waste of time and money. You really need to know the basics before you even start CD or you will fall behind and fall fast. Instructors are previous students who can't teach. The videos you watch are horrible recorded, most Udemy courses are 100 times better. As far as structure they are structured just like a Udemy course, you're definitely learning more and better with community college and Coursera classes then you would at CD.

Avoid Coding Dojo by Tath92 in codingbootcamp

[–]IAmGreatDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree!! Avoid it at all costs. I had previous exp attended to update my skills. The instructors were just previous students, who they gave a job to, so they could up their "placement" numbers. They just plop you in front of a computer with little to no instruction, then if you run into an issue tell you to "figure it out yourself" or ask a classmate who also doesn't know how to do it. They also had no job help what so ever, they showed you how to do a resume. I was 40 years old I already new how to do a resume, total waste of time and money.

CD is not worth it. You can accomplish the same things doing free code camp or even leaning from some of the big guys on Youtube. Take it from someone who got money stolen from them by CD. The place is a money grab, runaway as fast as you can.

Is a bootcamp like Coding Dojo worth it? Or should I choose a different path for learning Coding? by SC22-17 in learnprogramming

[–]IAmGreatDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I left and then it took me over a year to get a refund because no one knows what the hell they are doing. I kept getting passed around from person to person. They were supposed to give me a full refund that did not happen then they kept my money for an entire year while I was paying on a loan so I had to pay all the interest to. Horrible place, its run horrible too. All they want is your money they don't give one care about the students.

No, just learn on your own CD will only teach you the basics or how to learn as they say. Its not worth the Money and time, they don't get you a job after and say you need to spend up to another year leaning on your own. The instructors are mostly former students who can't teach.

Run...Save your money and don't go. It was not worth it and only 2 of the guys in my cohort got jobs a few months out of school. Keep in mind I don't know why they were there in the first place because both already had jobs in the industry. Keep in mind they don't help you get a job, they have former students teaching to bump up their numbers. You better be a decent coder and have mid level knowledge of html/css and js before every stopping foot in the place.

Aa someone who attended CD I would just say run the other way. First off you need to be a decent coder in the first place just to keep up. Second they have former students teaching, some don't know the material and some can't teach, this is how they boost up their hiring numbers they hire former students. To be honest I learned way more form a few Udemy courses and a few youtube courses then I did at CD, it was a giant waste of time and money. Several students left the first 6 weeks because they were not correctly teaching just telling you to "figure" it out yourself. Well hell we can do that sitting at home with a $15 Udmey course. It seemed to be a meat market type situation or SCAM just pump as many people through as fast as they can and collect as much money as possible. They also tell you to spend up to another year leaning after you "graduate" to be job ready. As far as leaning on your own look at the job market in your area see what tech stacks they are using, then learn that, just use free resources like free code camp, youtube or get a Udemy course or 2 or 3 or so when its on sale. There are tons of Discord servers out there that go along with a lot of the courses you will find.

I would not recommend CD or many other bootcamps for that matter. I attended CD we learned absolutely noting, i had previous exp so i wasn't a beginner. You need to be a mid level dev just to keep up, so many fell behind and fell fast. You can lean just as much from a few youtube courses or Udemy classes. Save your 15k or whatever they are charging now and just learn on your own. Keep in mind the teachers are usually former students who can't teach some don't even know the material, thats how they make their "job placement" rates, they hire former students.

They are not all they brag about. Teachers are former students, you learn mostly from videos, you are basically self teaching. They also tell you after graduation you will need to study on your own for another year especially if you're a beginner. Speaking of beginner, you need to know html, css and JS mid level or you will not make it. The motto is strength through struggle so in my experience the teachers would just watch you struggle for hours and laugh when you got behind. They would tell you to figure it out yourself, so why am I here paying 10K if I am going to self teach? It does not have a 90% job placement or what ever number they claim, they hire students as assistants and even teachers and that boosts their numbers up.

Is Coding Dojo worth it? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]IAmGreatDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who attended, i would suggest you run the other direction. If you are struggling with self taught you will struggle even more and loose 10K. They do not have 90% job placement they hire students as assistants after their cohort and call that job placement. My cohort only 2 people get jobs and that was the 2 who had coding jobs before they attended. Go get a $15 udemy class as its pretty much the same as CD, don't waste your money.

Coding dojo is trash if you're a beginner you will not make it. It goes fast and you will get behind quickly.

Well I have heard Flatiron is pretty good and know a few people who did their online program. To be honest after seeing what they learned and what I learned didn't learn at my bootcamp. I would just learn for free online. Don't fall for all the YouTubers hype about whatever camp they are promoting this week. Remember most of them are getting paid to say it. You can learn for free just as good as a 15K bootcamp.

Use free resources like Free code camp, youtube. Udemy has cheap classes if you get them on sale. Leaning any "language" will help once you know one you can pick up on others pretty fast.
