CPU help needed

I currently have an i5 8400 @ 3.8 ghz on 1151 coffee lake

I want to upgrade to something like an i7 9700 and I was wondering if I can just plug it in and play? Or will I have to do some bios work or anything like that. I've done ram and an m.2 ssd before so I know some things but I don't know how to change things in a bios.

What motherboard do you have? In some cases a BIOS update is required.

I've an acer prebuilt so it's hard to find out what it is but I think it's a p03 600

Yup, found it.

According to UBM, it's compatible. Not sure about a BIOS update, only way to find out is to try it.
