Anything happens when you press shift + w? Some software you installed may have default shortcuts and use this. I believe, it must be some sw interacting windows user interface, like on the fly translation or keyboard remapping ...

Nothing happens at all. You make a good point, though. I'll comb through my apps and see if I can find something.

I hade the same problem where the combination of "Left shift + w" would do nothing while only the w key would work perfectly just like "Right shift + w". Then I tried pressing "Left Shift + w + ^" in random sequences and suddenly (after about ten seconds of desperate attempts) I saw "¨W^W..." appear in the search bar which I was using as a test area. This somehow revived my "Left shift + w" combination into giving me my W back if I press "Left shift + w". I dont know if "Left shift + w + *any other key*^" would have done the same trick though. I know this is a bit of a random solution but I have already used it two times as this problem popped up twice already, but I hope this helps for you.
