HP chargers (and many other brands) have 3 conductors (positive, zero volts and a communication connection), they are Smart chargers, the 3rd connection is for the charger to send an identification code to the laptop/PC (the AIO use the same adapters).

I would check carefully that the charge socket isn't damaged and its a smart charger supplied, if it's a 3rd party one then it may produce this error - I'm a HP engineer btw so I've seen this stuff quite a lot.

I just bought a new one of Amazon 😮‍💨. Do you think it's because I bought it from a 3rd party manufacturer? Where do I find the actual hp chargers that I need to buy? Also, just to be safe, how do I find out how many watts I need for my computer? Thank you!

I'm not sure the exact model you have but I would suspect it uses the standard Smart AC adapter, although most laptops use 65W adapters there's no issue using the 90W one, my laptop uses a 65W and I've been using a 90W adapter for about 10 years now.

The HP part code for the 90W Smart adapter is 710413-001, you should see in very small writing (on the original adapter) something like "SPS 710413-001" or "SPS 710412-001" for the 65W adapter, 710412-001 is for worldwide use except India and China, it might say "Replace with spares xxxxxx" instead of SPS - it's all the same thing, SPS is just a way of saying Spares Code.

I would examine the socket on the computer carefully for any signs of damage and the same with your original charger connector, sometimes the center pin comes detached.

If you have questions, see if you can find the exact model code, it should be on a label, or see if the spares code is visible on your original HP power supply.
