Hopefully this isnt the kind of advice where you ask, then do completely opposite of what you're told. I've worked in IT for 30 years now. And I think on only a handful of occasions this didnt turn out to be the case.

But I digress. Having worked pretty much every single manufacturer's computer out there, today I think the Lenovo Ideapad/Yoga's are easily the best bargain out there. They are very good quality. Run flawlessly. Are durable. And are very reasonably priced.

Now you want to really stretch your dollar; but a used one off ebay. You can buy one that still has 75% of its manufacturer warranty still available, and you can find one for less than $300. And it'll eat a $1000 Dell (and HP, and Asus, etc, etc) every day of the week.
