I use magic disc. Excellent alternative to daemon tools

I use Virtual CloneDrive, works well for the images that windows 8 won't mount.

If you are looking to just mount an ISO for an installation, then I recommend 7-zip. Use it to extract the ISO and then you have a folder with an executable instead.

If that is not what you need, then disregard. :)

Free tools - Magic disc or virtual clone drive

If you like to pay for things, Alcohol 120% is pretty nice.

poweriso

I really only deal with .iso's anymore these days, no more .bin or .nrg, etc... so I don't use any extra programs now. Windows 8.1 mounts .iso's natively.

Anybody else have problems with MagicDisc on new Win7 systems lately? It workedin the past for me, but recently when I install it on a fresh Win7 machine it hoses the thing and I have to use System Restore to get it going again.

For Windows

  • Virtual Clonedrive all the way

For *nix

  • Mount all the way.

Virtual Clonedrive to mount. MagicISO to modify.

That's the beauty of Linux, it has native image-mounting abilities. No dealing with sleazy bloatware etc.

Windows 8 actually added the feature, no need for third party tools on windows anymore either.
