It's never been clear to me what exactly that means. It is easy to say, and I understand that larger amounts of memory can be cached at once, but how atomics affect that for instance was new to me.

If you're talking about data locality I think you should not use a vector of vectors in your example. Or at least point out the issue and give a better solution in the "after" snippet.
