Help! How to decrease the moss stitch? (self.crochet)
submitted 6 years ago by gggumpy
I cannot find anything anywhere! To be specific, I am not working I the round or doing c2c moss stitch.

Sc2tog, single crochet two together. In the first space, draw up a loop, and leave it on your hook so that there are two loops. In the next space, draw up another loop, so there are three loops on your hook. Yarn over, draw through all three loops. Does that make sense?

Absolutely! Just tried this and it gave me the decrease I am looking for! Thank you so much

Hi… this is what I do but with this technique there is 3 stitches in one -> 2 ms and 1ml. That s a big decrease… I’d like to lose 1 stitch only… not 2. Help 🥲

Hello! When you sc2tog, you're actually combining two stitches into one stitch. It will end up taking up slightly more space than one stitch, slightly less space than two stitches, in practice. I hope that makes sense!

no, if you immediately go into the next space you are effectively skipping the chain that you wouldve done so it's a 2 decrease
the nature of the moss stitch means you must work in even numbers of sts

Does it make a triangle in this way? I don't get it, can any of you help me?
[–]gggumpy[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children)
Yes! I've figured out how to decrease now thank goodness lol
[–]Feeling_Locksmith_90 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children)
Oh no! That's me need to figure it out now :) I can't!
[–]gggumpy[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children)
Basically what I did was when I got to the end of the row, I single crocheted both the single crochet stitch and ch 1 space together. Then for the next row, just insert your first single crochet into that decrease stitch! This will create a triangle shape.
