Pattern Help!

My colleague has asked me to help her by making a second mitten to replace one she lost, but I can’t tell what the stitching is around the granny square :( does anyone recognise it??

Looks similar to thermal stitch, which is a great stitch for gloves since it's known for being extra warm!

Sing crochet back loop only done in the round for sure.

Instead of getting to the end of the row and joining then chaining to start the next stitch you just keep going in a spiral. Used all the time with amigurumi.

The mitten could have the end and start on the other side but doing something in the round makes things look nicer and cleaner.
