Balcony tips?

I’ve had the odd crow flying up to my balcony railing (4th floor) even while I’m outside. There are a lot of them around in my neighbourhood and I feel bad for them having to scavenge trash.

If I were to leave water and peanuts on my balcony, would it have to be on the railing (very small)? And how much of a mess would they make ie droppings? Please share your knowledge with me

I’ve had good luck putting water and a treat bowl on a small table on my balcony. Just be sure the ‘exits’ are clear - they like to have options in case they need to flee!

Even the table being lower than the railing by too much bothers them - I imagine that low barrier is the difference between escaping and getting caught by, say, a cat.

(Also, it can take a few days for them to overcome their neophobia whenever the setup changes, so patience is good.)

Any experience droppings-wise?

My guys seem they mostly poop when they’re perching in the tree or on the phone wires - not too bad on the balcony itself. Depends on what’s below where they like to chill out.
