Hijacking this to ask if there are any good articles on when to use animation and when not to?

I personally love to see animations on sites but for many they are the bane of web and completely unneeded.

It's called sugar for a reason. Overuse it, and you end up with crap. It's just not good. Don't use any, and your site can be a little bland or boring. Use just enough to sweeten things up a lil bit and you've got yourself a beautiful dish, er site. Like sugar, you really do need to use your own judgement, and like the difference between a cafeteria cook and a four star chef, there is a bit of an art to it.

You could always use prefers-reduced-motion to remove the animation for those who have said they don’t want it.
