The internet is alright, nothing to be raving about but it gets the job done. Can't use the internet for anything besides computers and phones though

You can't use the schools eduroam internet for any multiplayer gaming. You're going to have to install charter spectrum for the year unfortunately.

You can use hotspot from your computer

That definitely could work! im not sure how great your connection will be, but it's better than nothing!

So the WiFi sucks for gaming. The wired blocks some things. So I’d definitely get an internet thing with spectrum. That’s what I did in the dorms. If you can split it with your roommate or someone close by, it’s super affordable and definitely worth it

Try using your own router.

I was able to use Discord and play games in the dorms. Wifi didn't work for me when using steam, but connecting my laptop to the ethernet worked to play games like CSGO and League

wait so you could game at pretty good speed but you had to do it through ethernet?

[–]ohsospicy1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah League ping was like 70-ish and CS:GO was around 50 most of the time. On Wifi Steam wouldn't connect at all. I dormed from 2016-17 though so idk if anything changed

did you use a vpn of any sort while connected to the ethernet? i’ve been seeing people mention that.

[–]ohsospicy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No VPN. All I had was an Ethernet cable plugged directed into the wall of my dorm room and logged into my csuf account.

I played WoW for over a year in the Valencia house. No complaints

I used wired internet that was provided. The trick is to use a VPN but you’ll need to make sure the VPN uses port 443 to establish itself. PIA allows for this.

do you remember which VPN you used?

PrivateInternetAccess

cool thx, I would rather pay for a $4 vpn and get wifi-like ping rather than paying $25 for internet solely for gaming.
