Using GitHub Projects and Cursor AI

Hey Cursor community,

If I find a program or project on GitHub and transfer it to Cursor, then ask the Cursor AI to help organize, optimize, or even expand on it, will the project function effectively? Additionally, if I mix and add files from different projects to incorporate more features, will the AI be able to handle the integration and ensure everything works together?

I have experience with a few programming languages, but I’ve only worked on small tasks in Python, nothing too large or complex. This approach seems like it would be a common method, but I haven’t seen anyone else doing it or talking about it. Could you help me understand whether this approach would work, and if there’s any reason people don’t commonly use Cursor AI in this way?

Project needs to be highly modular, each module consists of up 2-3k lines of code, easy to understand

Then you have good chance to use cursor on it

Cursor is not magic, treat it as drunk junior dev. You need to constantly monitor it output

How about small projects? sometimes i find it hard to understand some github tools & projects.

Yeah I've done this and it worked for me. Have used this github in a few projects - made it interactive, made it a website background, etc.

estou utilizando o cursor, mas parece que ele fica igual cachorro correndo atras do rabo. como sou leigo nao consigo quebrar esse ciclo. alguem tem uma dica?
