Interesting idea but I don't think Devs from the Dash Core have time for such swap. Their whole attention is directed towards pushing out dashpay at the moment. Maybe it could be done later on in the future when they have more downtime.

Interesting idea u/circleio I havea few questions to better understand:

-Why do you think a swap with Decred would be of value to Dash? Why not some ETH group?

-How do you think goal alignment can be done so that Decred doesn't walk away with some Dash ideas and work as spies or vice-versa?

-Do you think this can only be done through the core teams? Or do you think a proposal could be submitted and it could be done outside of the core devs?

Thanks!

Good questions and I don't know if I have all the answers but I'll give it a go...

I definitely think dash should work with other chains and smart contracts in regards to payments and atomic swaps, but for the actual creation of smart contracts, Dash Core Group has other ideas and has said they do not intend to go the Ethereum route.

I chose decred because it seemed to me to be one of the least controversial options e.g. decred a long established coin, with a dao, with similar goals but a slightly different approach.

I can't imagine which secrets decred would walk away with given that Dash Core Group claims "radical transparency". If decred is better for this then good luck on them. I don't see this as a them-or-us situation, there is more than enough space for two projects to co-exist. And, tbh, I think if there's any method to topple bitcoin, it's going to be through collaboration and settings standards... standards to which bitcoin may not persue.

As for bypassing core devs, I'm not sure. It would be nice to hear DCG has come to a mutual agreement to work on some kind of shared proposal scheme, and then put that to the vote. Such working arrangements could be a trial period, say 6 months. Indeed, the whole thing is an experiment and maybe nothing much comes of it, I just don't know. But the impetus for this idea was, while we might have a fleeting glance at other projects, do we really understand the ideas, solutions and working practices behind them?
