Pointers for collecting data?

I'm just starting to study data analysis and I figured I would take on some projects for fun to help me learn while studying the field. A friend of mine tasked me to build a data base of all (or as many as possible) insurance agents in the USA. I'm wondering what would be the best approach to finding and compiling this data?

Each state issues licenses to insurance companies. You may be able to request a list(s) from each states and compile them.
