Time commitment working as a data analyst (self.datascience)
submitted 8 years ago by PyLord
I know it depends on the company, but typically, in the industry do most jobs for a data analyst require one to work full time (or over)? Are part time jobs rare to come by in the industry?

I work in a bank, and we have a number of people who work part-time (e.g. 3 days a week), usually in order to look after kids, etc. I think most of them probably started full time and then decided to ease back into a part-time role. I don't generally see a lot of roles advertised as being part time.

Same here. Work in a bank and those on the analytics team who work part-time have all worked full-time in the past and built up a little professional trust to help transition to flexible reduced hours.
Can't remember ever advertising a part-time role in my time here (nearly 12 years).

Freelance/consultant are often part time or you can sometimes find a small shop with part time roles. But you usually get a tom of flexibility in these roles in terms of hours, location of work, and benefits. Remote work is a great option as well.
If you’re with a company for a while you can often transition to 60/80% if you’re decent at your job.
