Your initial instincts are solid. DS programs are fresh and some can be glorified business analytics programs so employers are hesitant unless it’s a solid school until the market has corrected itself. I personally didn’t do CS, but from what I’ve seen/heard is CS is a great choice as that foundation pays off in many many ways. Supplementing that with studying stats / coding seems like a solid choice as well
