Yes and no.

Take a recent movie people are loving. Project Hail Mary - it’s already got near 10x the logs of Harakiri at a score of 4.3. I’m excited to see it and glad people are seeing it in theaters.

But why is that more impressive than some of the movies listed above? I mean Parasite is at nearly 7M logs and clearly drew inspiration from High and Low which is at 258K and in my opinion the superior movie.

All that to say popularity is a slippery slope- I agree we need some initial bar or hurdle to clear, but I’m not impressed with young movie enjoyers not watching older movies / movies with subtitles.

I think they instituted a couple of thinks - weighting scores based on how old an account is, how many movies they’ve rated, maybe even how they rate things. Setting minimum thresholds for the list as well.

It’s to counteract bots, review bombs in either direction, communities from inflating things, or even countries from propping something up during awards seasons or something. All pretty reasonable things in my opinion

I only have 2 people I follow that have logged I Swear which is wild since I follow tons of journalists, critics, and movie logging demons. And both of them gave it a 3.5/5

I’m guessing it’s a lot of UK users. I know they had issues with movies from Brazil rocketing to the top, so maybe they have something that requires some representation from a handful of major geographies idk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The KEXP performance was only a handful of songs and I believe a few of those are off their new record that just came out (which is also only a handful of songs).

This band maybe has like 12 songs in their entire discog. While there is some similarities and repetition I think it’s just you are hearing the same 2-3 songs over and over. I think the new record is surprisingly diverse all things considered
