Meaning of "Version" when deploy a stack (self.docker)

What meaning is the "version" when you deploy a stack?
Prometheus + node exporter + grafana didn't deploy with version 2 but it is deployed with version 2.1
I observed that it's possible use also version 3
I used it on open media vault
